The Sligo-Leitrim Filipino Association Dancers entertained the crowd in colourful costumes with a traditional, and cultural Philippine folk dance as part of the inaugural St. Johns Hospital Wise Roots Festival which was a huge success with Seamie Cawley performing some classics and Sligo Age Friendly ambassador, Sandy Kelly singing a duet with a resident and a family member as a tribute paid to her late mother who was cared for in St John’s Community Hospital.
Santa had his work cut out for him when he visited the staff on 18th December 2023 but he eventually saw off the Grinch and brought lots of Christmas cheer to our residents. He’s coming next year to make sure the Grinch doesn’t return!
We often book musicians and singers to come in at weekends or on special occasions to provide entertainment in the beautiful Garden Room within the hospital. We have lots of childrens choirs and other entertainment throughout the year and often invite performers requested by the residents.
The outings we organise include trips to the cinema, concerts, music events in local hotels, outings to Sligo Rovers and Sligo GAA matches and Sligo Races to name a few!
We also plan activities within the hospital such as movie nights where staff order in a takeaway of choice for residents
